deadgirl chronicles
envisioning + drafting
there are two sides to every person – the side that nobody else will ever get to see, experience or feel, and the side that you choose to show to everyone else. the intention behind deadgirl is to shine the light on both sides of a person; their moon side, and their sun side. with these two powerful entities within us, we often find ourselves visiting and exploring both sides on a daily basis. we constantly travel the planets within ourselves, our thoughts, our beliefs, in order to process, to grow and to reach a level of self-acceptance and eventually bask in it. the galaxies within ourselves are revealed and should be revelled in.
initally, i wanted to write a piece on deadgirl exploring both sides of herself (as per image, 2016), however soon realised there was much more to her character beyond the “two sides”, hence, separated the book into two and made two front covers.
the two sides
the moon side: the side that no one really gets to see; it is disjointed, showcasing the innermost feelings, the ugly realisations, the sad traumas, the self-consciousness, the unpublished secrets.
the sun side: the side that everyone sees, the happy feelings, the clarifying realisations, the healed scars, the acceptance of self and basking in it, the strong will of not letting negative affect you. the beauty of the present.
working with these two main parts of herself, brought out the branches of deadgirl’s experiences, perspectives and opinions which are then translated into poems.
